The mid-nineties saw the emergence of a 3D polygon fighting game bonanza, and SEGA was at the forefront. Arcades across the world were graced with Virtua Fighter 2 in 1994. Sonic the Fighters and Fighting Vipers arrived in arcades in 1996. Virtua Fighter 2 would become the “flagship” title for the Sega Saturn, known for its near perfect arcade ports (when such things were impressive).
